Martinez, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound senior from El Salvador who graduated from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas, booted the game-winning field goal with nine seconds left as the Pioneers defeated Lyon College in Batesville, Ark., 30-28.

Coach Butch Henderson said of the game-winning drive that started with 55 seconds left, "We felt we could move the ball down the field, and if we could tee it up past the 50 Daniel would be able to win it."

Martinez, who earlier in the day was named Central States Football League Special Teams Player of the Week, also made both of his other field goal attempts from 24 and 25 yards, and he was 3-for-3 on PATs. Martinez also had two touchbacks among seven kickoffs that averaged just over 56 yards per attempt.

It marks the second straight week and the ninth time in his career than Martinez has been named CSFL Special Teams Player of the Week. This is the third time he's been NAIA National Player of the Week.

He first was recognized by the NAIA as a freshman after booting a program-record four field goals from 28, 24, 48 and 45 yards, along with two PATs, in a 26-14 win over Bacone. The following season Martinez was named NAIA Special Teams Player of the Week for a second time after kicking three field goals (22, 55 and 42 yards) and five PATs in a 44-34 win over Howard Payne.

Martinez holds the school record for longest field goal of 56 yards kicked in the season-opener against Southwestern College (Kan.) his sophomore season. He also has connected from 53, 55 and 52 yards.

For his career, Martinez has successfully kicked 34-of-51 field goals and 89-of-93 PATs.

This season, Martinez is ranked second in the NAIA in field goals with 10 and ninth in kick scoring with 38 points.
